Accurate testing is crucial for the diagnosis and management of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes coronavirus disease (COVID-19). SA Health has developed a policy position on the use of COVID-19 serology testing. This guidance states that SARS-CoV-2 serology plays no role in diagnosis of acute COVID-19.
Serology requests must be approved by:
- a clinical microbiologist, or
- an infectious disease physician, or
- a Communicable Disease Control Branch medical officer (1300 232 272).
As a service to our clients, Clinpath ask that you contact Dr Jhumur Roy, our clinical microbiologist, to discuss requesting this test in future, or follow SA Health guidelines.
