Celebrating Blood Week

Friday, 12 June 2020 | Charlie Robinson

At Clinpath, every day we celebrate dedicated partnerships which ensure we have the right unit (of blood) at the right time, for the right person!

The WHO (World Health Organisation) states, “Every year, on 14 June, countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day. The event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood. Blood is an important resource, both for planned treatments and urgent interventions. It can help patients suffering from life-threatening conditions live longer and with a higher quality of life, and supports complex medical and surgical procedures. Blood is also vital for treating the wounded during emergencies of all kinds (natural disasters, accidents, armed conflicts, etc.) and has an essential, life-saving role in maternal and perinatal care.”

Dr Lakshmi Nath, our Director of Haematology and Transfusion Medicine set up the highly successful Massive Transfusion protocol called 'CODE GREEN' across all major metropolitan hospitals. The CODE GREEN service started back in 2009, and these days it can be as simple as a quick SMS message to pre-warn the Clinpath team about high-risk patients that have us at the ready and all systems go.

Over the years the CODE GREEN process has helped many doctors, surgeons, and anaesthetists confidently manage massive bleeds to improve our patient outcomes.

Clinpath’s success has been driven by the innate understanding that Medical Leadership facilitates the highest standards of professional and operational excellence for the doctors and patients that we serve.

Think Pathology. Think Blood Transfusion. Think Clinpath.
