The first stage of Clinpath’s COVID-19 testing has been implemented with rapid testing available for high-risk patients in private hospital emergency departments and intensive care units.

Tim Adey-Wakeling, Business Manager
Care 24-7 Emergency Department, said,
"The Rapid COVID-19 PCR testing provided by Clinpath provides our clinicians with a cutting edge, fast and accurate screening practice that ensures the integrity of the department."

Dr Fergus Whitehead, Clinpath CEO said, “With the many issues facing the medical profession associated with the COVID-19 outbreak, Clinpath recognizes that, as your pathology practice, we have an important role to play in supporting you and your patients, as much as the community at large in South Australia. We have been an integral part of the community fabric for over 25 years and we have adapted to support you during these times.”

Clinpath have seven hospital laboratories strategically located throughout metro Adelaide, within private hospitals such as Western Community Hospital, St Andrews and the extensive Calvary network including the 24-hour service located at Calvary Adelaide, all generally benefitting from our private pathology services.

These private hospitals, along with many others where we do not operate a laboratory onsite have now been fully supported with COVID-19 testing in their respective Emergency Departments, ICU’s or Maternity Units as needed. This service provides Doctor’s with the ability to request a rapid COVID-19 test for patients who meet criteria.

The second stage for Clinpath’s COVID-19 testing includes the expansion of our molecular pathology department at our main Mile End laboratory. With this new laboratory, Clinpath are able to provide onsite COVID-19 testing, supported by an array of COVID-19 collection services to all South Australians. This stage includes further expansion of our support services to the private Hospital network with pre-screening COVID-19 testing to patients 48 hours prior to elective surgery.

Clinpath Pathologist, Dr Craig James said, “During what has been unprecedented times, our operational models have changed almost daily in response to needs of the medical community.  Our newly approved and accredited rapid COVID-19 test will help us to play an important role in the ongoing maintenance of safety regarding medical practitioners, all involved in provision of private health care as well as their patient’s and the broader community.”
