COVID-19 Update Monday 16 March 2020

Monday, 16 March 2020 | Brooke Kenny

Following on from our previous COVID-19 Update, dated Thursday 12 March 2020

  1. Respiratory Testing Update

As we advised in our communique Thursday March 12 2020, Clinpath is operating as per normal and must continue to provide our patients with routine pathology collection services, including respiratory testing. However, as we strive to remain vigilant in the management of risks that have the potential to impact our ability to operate, Clinpath Pathology will be streamlining the Collection Centres who offer this testing.

To minimize risks on our staff and yours, Clinpath will not be accepting respiratory collection requests at co-located sites. Patients will be directed to a standalone Collection Centres which have appropriate PPE and risk controls in place for our staff. Testing arrangements will be reviewed each day in line with guidelines and national advice and we encourage you to stay aware of our directives, either via this medium, your BD Client Liaison Rep, or our website.

A list of these specific Clinpath Collection Centres, available for respiratory testing as per above, is being added to our website. A link will be added to our home page for easy referencing.

As previously communicated, on advice from the SA Health Communicable Disease Control Branch, Clinpath Pathology continues to be unable to accept requests of pathology collection for the COVID-19 virus.

  1. Medical Supplies Update

We are currently experiencing a high demand for pathology consumables from Medical Centres across South Australia. As you can appreciate supply restrictions are in place to ensure our Collection Centres can continue to operate. However, in particular, please note we are experiencing a short supply of Skin Lesion Kits. As an alternative, Clinpath encourage the use of and will supply a Basic Dressing Pack and Scalpel if required.

We remind all medical practitioners these consumables are for the collection of pathology in accordance with Detriment. These restrictions may result in a turnaround time increase due to the volume of orders and supply issues. Once again, we encourage you to stay aware of our directives, either via this medium, your BD Client Liaison Rep, or our website.

  1. Swab Update

We have been informed the Clinpath Blue Top Liquid Swabs are not accepted by SA Pathology for COVID-19 testing. Therefore, if you are swabbing for COVID-19, we encourage your use of SA Pathology consumables only for testing.

Kind regards,
