Biography

Professor Richard Logan trained at the University of Adelaide in dentistry before undertaking higher specialist training in oral and maxillofacial pathology and completing his Fellowship in the Faculty of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology of the Royal Australasian College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA) in 2008. Prior to working with Clinpath, he was a Consultant Oral Pathologist at SA Pathology, from 2006 until 2011.

Prof Logan is also the Dean and Head of the Adelaide Dental School at The University of Adelaide as well as the discipline lead in Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology within the school. He is involved with both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at the university. In addition, Prof Logan is an Examiner for the Final Examination of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons in the areas of oral pathology, oral medicine and oral surgery. His main research interests include the mechanisms of oral and gastrointestinal toxicities associated with cancer treatment, particularly the role of pro-inflammatory cytokines in the pathobiology of mucositis. He is actively involved in the development of updated international clinical guidelines for the management of oral and gastrointestinal mucositis through involvement with the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer. He has also chaired committees responsible for the developing structured reporting protocols for carcinomas of the major salivary glands and mucosal melanomas of the head and neck (RCPA).

Prof Logan has been awarded Fellowships of both the Pierre Fauchard Academy and the International College of Dentists in recognition of his contributions to the dental profession. He is the past Chair of the Faculty of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology (RCPA) and past President of the International Society of Oral Oncology.  Prof Logan is a member of the International Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology and the Multinational Association for Supportive Care in Cancer/International Society of Oral Oncology.
