Special interests: Rapid diagnosis in
chronic infections and in the pathophysiology of viral hepatitis,
as well as respiratory infections
Dr Pik Chuen Lee received a BSc with First Class Honours in
microbiology from the University of Western Australia before
graduating in Medicine from the Flinders University, South
Australia. He trained in both internal medicine and diagnostic
microbiology pathology at the Flinders Medical Centre, the Royal
Adelaide Hospital and the Institute of Medical and Veterinary
Science (IMVS). For more than eight years, Dr Lee was the Senior
Consultant Physician and Head of Clinical Microbiology and
Infectious Diseases at the Repatriation General Hospital. He was
also Chairman of the Infection Control Committee, where he remained
after joining Gribbles in 1991, first as a Sessional Consultant
Medical Microbiologist, then in a full-time role as the Medical
Head in charge of microbiology, serology, immunology and molecular
biology in Adelaide.
Dr Lee is a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of
Physicians (FRACP, 1990); a Fellow of the Hong Kong College of
Physicians (FHKP, 1998); a Fellow of the Royal College of
Physicians London (FRCP, 2013); a Fellow of the Royal College of
Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA, 1989); a Member of the
Australian Society for Microbiologists (1985); an Assessor of the
Clinical Laboratory Testing, National Association of Testing
Authorities Australia (NATA); a Member of the South Australian
Expert Advisory Group of Antimicrobial Resistance (South Australian
Government); a Member of the Infection Control Association of
Australasia; a Committee Member of the Drug & Therapeutics
Committee of the Modbury Public Hospital; a Committee Member of the
Infection Control Committee of the Modbury Public Hospital; a
Committee Member of Medical Executive Committee of the Burnside
Hospital; a Committee Member of Clinical Accreditation Committee of
the Burnside Hospital; the Chairman of the Infection Control
Committee of the Burnside Hospital; a Committee Member of the
Infection Control Committee of the Calvary Hospital of North
Adelaide; a Committee Member of the Infection Control Committee of
the North Eastern Community Hospital; and a Member of the Clinical
Governance Committee of the Home Support Service of South
Australia.
Dr Lee joined Adelaide Pathology Partners in May 2007, as the
Medical Head in charge of microbiology, serology, immunology and
molecular biology. Dr Lee has been a Senior Clinical Lecturer in
tertiary institutions since 1990 and is actively involved in
teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate
levels. His clinical interests include the management of
complicated infections, especially those associated with surgical
implants, and infection control in health care establishments. His
laboratory research interests include rapid diagnosis in chronic
infections and in the pathophysiology of viral hepatitis, as well
as respiratory infections. In these areas, he has written and
contributed to numerous publications in various peer-reviewed
journals.
